PAINTLESS DENT REMOVAL (PDR)

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

It might seem impossible - to remove a dent from a car without affecting the paint, or without needing to repaint a panel altogether, but with Paintless Dent Removal (PDR), you can indeed have your dents, dings, bumps and scrapes fixed without the need to paint.

QUESTION: What is PDR and how does it differ to other repairs?

ANSWER: PDR work is exactly what it sounds like - a method of panel beating that requires specific tools and plenty of skill to do correctly. It isn’t a new technology, having been in use in different places around the world for about 40 years. PDR is a method of repairing dents in a car's bodywork by reshaping the panel. During PDR, specialist tools are used to press and massage the damaged panel from behind. As a result, the dented metal is pushed out, to restore its original shape.

QUESTION: Is PDR a specialised process?

ANSWER: PDR is an environmentally-friendly repair method that restores a vehicle’s body to factory-like condition in a fraction of the time at a fraction of the cost. PDR can be used to remove dings and dents from vehicles, as well as body creases and hail damage.. Essentially, though, our repairer will remove any interior trims that are in the way, and use specialised tools to reshape the panel to its original form,

QUESTION: What parts of the car can be repaired using this process?

ANSWER: PDR can be used on bonnets, bumpers, fenders, doors, boot lids and roof turrets - if its metal and the paint isn’t compromised, your expert paintless dent repairer should be able to work it out. As long as the paint isn’t broken, PDR can be used for everything from smaller trolley dings to larger impacts to the panels. Even marks that you might think can’t be repaired without a replacement panel - in most cases, they are fixable with PDR

QUESTION: My paintwork has been broken - can PDR be used to repair it?

ANSWER: Not impossible, but it will be hard to fix a scratch on your car using PDR if the factory paint has been compromised. If the paint has been broken, PDR can be used, but the finish will not be as good. ProCar Dent Removal employees are experienced PDR operators and trained panel beaters and will advise you if you need to go to a full-service panel beating shop.

QUESTION: Can all types of cars be fixed using PDR?

ANSWER: For owners of newer cars, be wary if the vehicle has aluminium panels. Many new cars have aluminium bonnets, fenders and tailgates. Manufacturers use aluminium to increase strength and lower weight, but this can present a challenge for PDR repairers.

Aluminium is harder to fix. Metal has memory, so when it is pressed back, it goes back to where it was. A steel-pressed panel will spring back to its shape which was pressed under heat - aluminium will not.

QUESTION: My paintwork is slightly damaged - can this still be fixed using PDR?

ANSWER: PDR can work if your paint is damaged - there are ways of working around a broken surface coating, however, the finish won’t be as pristine as repairs without damaged paint.
